Ahoy, lads and lassies –

If the winter hasn’t given you scurvy and the Ides of March haven’t seen you stabbed to death on the Senate floor, then hear ye this: St. Old Man Kelly’s Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, the 17th of March. Blacksburg shall be commemorating this most sacred of holidays at Gillie’s restaurant, round about 7:00pm. There shall be food! There shall be drink! There shall be song! There shall be more drink and more song! And then ye shall give forth your offering to St. Old Man Kelly, for he is a man of rakish ways and requires vast coin and strong spirits to bring forth his message to the world.

Wednesday. March 17. Gillie’s. 7:00pm. You kids get off my lawn and come out to the big show!

Old Man Kelly with Spider+Octopus this Thursday

Ahoy, good people –

Old Man Kelly will appear at Gillie’s in Blacksburg this Thursday, starting around 7pm, opening for Spider+Octopus.

Spider+Octopus are an indie folk duo hailing from Pensacola, FL. 8 legs + 8 tentacles = 16 limbs of acoustic fury. Come check it out!

Old Man Kelly will be swinging his swagger this Thursday night, from 7-10pm at Gillie’s restaurant in Blacksburg. You townies know that this is the last week of summer before the barbarian hordes return, so come out and enjoy one last night on the town with the locals before we’re overrun. Food, drink, and song will be in ample supply.

I’ve recorded and uploaded a couple of tunes; you’ll find them on the “Sounds” page. “Jolie Anne” is an accordion tune that I wrote when I got my new Italian diatonic accordion. It’s based on my recollections of late night dancing in Cancale. “Haul Away, Joe” is a classic sea shanty, here performed a capella and solo.

From the last-minute-planning department: Old Man Kelly will appear TONIGHT at 7:00pm at a house concert at 508 Piedmont St. in Blacksburg. I’ll be opening for Lord of the Yum Yum, a one-man beatboxing variety show.

OMK will also be appearing June 19 at the Palisades Restaurant in Eggleston, and June 20 at the Blacksburg Farmers Market.

Ahoy, lads and lassies –

Summer has settled upon the New River Valley, and Old Man Kelly is passing his days sipping chilled rum from a coconut until his hammock is overturned and the gold is all spent. To re-fill the booty trunk, he’ll be playing a show this Thursday at Gillie’s restaurant in Blacksburg, from 7-10pm. For the rest of you stranded here in the mountains for the summer, the theme of the show will be Shipwrecked! Wear your shabbiest castaway garb and come ready to sing. The usual songs, stories, shanties and shenanigans will abound.

Also, the management is working on transitioning away from the spam-the-world approach to a proper e-mail list. So if you’d like to be added to that, sign up for the list.

Ahoy, lads and lassies –

Old Man Kelly will be performing his second-ever show on Friday, April 17 at The Palisades Restaurant in Eggleston, VA, probably around 7:00pm. Those of you who caught the show at Gillie’s know what that means — songs, stories, shanties, and shenanigans. Zany musical hijinks, high adventure and low humor, accordion-fueled sea shanties and one-man-band monkey business. Combined with good food and a chance to support a new venue and an old-new performer.
